Digital Transformation

Current IT Provision for 2,600 pupils — preparing every Annie Walsh girl to thrive in a connected world.

Students in uniform using computers in the ICT lab

As proud alumnae of the oldest institution in West Africa dedicated to educating girls, we are committed to sustaining leadership in academic and career achievement for women in Sierra Leone. With the recent inclusion of computer science and ICT in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), AWMS faces three significant challenges that we aim to address through this project.

  • No adequately trained teachers
  • Lack of computers
  • No suitable rooms

This project is led by AWOGA UK; however, other alumni groups — including AWOGA Texas — are supporting this campaign.

Why it matters

Three challenges we must solve

The new WASSCE ICT syllabus is here. Our girls cannot succeed without teachers, computers, and classrooms built for the task.

No adequately trained teachers

Without qualified ICT educators, students cannot build the foundational skills the new WASSCE syllabus demands.

Lack of computers

Too few machines mean students cannot develop the marketable digital skills they need for further study and work.

No suitable rooms

There are no dedicated spaces set up for examinations or for a regular computer-science class schedule.

Vision for 2025

A lab built for 64 pupils at a time

Our vision is a fully equipped, connected computer lab where full classes of Annie Walsh girls learn side-by-side at their own machine — not a rotation of a handful. The journey from the 2021 lab to the 2024 upgrade is just the beginning.

Watch the transformation

Phased approach

How we get there

A clear, sequenced plan — from training teachers to a fully connected school.

00Phase 0

Teacher IT Training

Equipping our teachers first. Staff completed foundational ICT training so they can confidently deliver the new computer-science curriculum and mentor students through the WASSCE syllabus.

01Phase 1

Computer Lab Build-Out

Refurbishing and equipping dedicated ICT rooms with workstations, networking, and power so that full classes — not handfuls of pupils — can learn at a machine.

02Phase 2

Curriculum & Examination Readiness

Aligning teaching to the WASSCE ICT syllabus and creating suitable examination rooms so every student can sit the exam on equal footing.

03Vision 2025

A Connected AWMS

A school where every girl leaves with the digital confidence to lead in Sierra Leone's economy — a future shaped by AWOGA's global alumni network.
